The first highlight of faces

The basic sanquir is quite light. Therefore, the colour of the highlights should be chosen in accordance to it. Before painting on the board, it is highly recommended to make some trials to find the good tint. Attention: the darker the basic colour you choose for the sanquir, the more red ochre you have to add to the mixture to obtain soft transitions between layers...

The mixture of the first highlight is composed of red ochre (1/4), yellow ochre (3/4) and a point of vermilion red.
Don’t add too much emulsion into the mixture to avoid egg haloes around the highlight areas.
Once the puddle is applied, wait one minute for the pigments to "fall down" on the bottom and encircle the zone with some water (mixed with a small quantity of egg emulsion) to make the transition imperceptible when dry...

The first highlights of hands and feet

Before applying the pigments it is necessary to have a precise idea of the places where the highlights will be more strong. Apply a small puddle, extend it adding a little bit more of water to the mixture and finally push again the pigments towards the zones that must be clearer. Let dry completely and blend the whole surface with emulsion mixed with some water.

The hands and feet are highlighted in the same way as the faces. But in this case, the pigments are pushed towards the extremities of the fingers and toes. Do not forget to highlight the calf in the chalice...

Once the first highlight dries you will notice that it is not very strong. This is required to set properly the next layers. In any case, don’t "force" it to go faster!
