The first puddle of blue

Ultramarine blue is one of the most difficult colours to apply using the "petit lac" method. Indeed, it is a heavy pigment which "falls" quickly at the bottom of the puddle and leaves tracks if it is immediately retouched. To get a homogeneous layer, it is thus necessary to apply it quickly and reduce, as much as possible, the quantity of emulsion in the colour mixture. Emulsion can be added later, once the surface is entirely dry.

The mixture for this puddle is composed of ultramarine blue, a touch of cobalt blue and a spot of viridian. In spite of the difficulty to apply this colour, the first layer should already create a good relief.
