Born in Bethsaida in Galilee, Saint Andrew was the brother of Saint Peter. He became disciple of Saint John the Baptist who designated Jesus saying: "Behold the lamb of God". Having understood that Jesus was the announced Messiah, Saint Andrew, the first called, brought his brother Peter to Jesus and they followed him immediatly. After the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Saint Andrew evangelized the coasts of the Black Sea, Bythinie, Thrace, Greece. He travelled across Ephesus, Mesopotamia, the south of Russia, Byzans and to the town of Patras where he was crucified on an "X" shaped cross. His relics are kept in Amalfi in Italy.
